Alicante has no shortage of nail salons. But finding one you genuinely trust — where you know the tools are clean and the master is giving you their full attention — takes a little more thought.
This isn't a guide about which place is "best." It's a short list of practical things worth paying attention to when you're choosing where to get your manicure done.
Hygiene: what actually matters
The most important question is simple: are the metal tools sterilized between clients? Not just cleaned — sterilized. There's a meaningful difference. Soaking tools in liquid is not sterilization. An autoclave (a pressurized steam device) is.
You can ask about this before booking. A studio that takes hygiene seriously will answer clearly and without hesitation. If the answer is vague — that's information too.
Single-use items — nail files, buffers, orange sticks — should be replaced for every client. Watching the master open these from new packaging at the start of your appointment is a good sign.
Private vs. shared space: what changes
In a shared salon, your appointment exists alongside several others happening at the same time. This isn't necessarily bad, but it does affect the experience. There's more movement, more noise, and the master's attention is divided.
In a private studio — one master, one client at a time — the pace is different. The appointment isn't being squeezed around others. There's room to take your time and get the result right.
For people who find salons overwhelming, or who simply prefer a quieter experience, this format can make a real difference.
What a quality hygienic manicure includes
A proper hygienic manicure — whether or not you add coating — should include:
- Careful cuticle treatment (softening and gentle removal, not cutting aggressively)
- Shaping and filing to the length you want
- Surface smoothing
- Time spent getting the result right — not rushed
A manicure done well takes at least 45 minutes for a simple hygienic treatment, and longer when gel coating is added. If a "full manicure with gel" is being completed in 30 minutes, corners are being cut somewhere.
Gel polish: a few things worth knowing
Gel polish applied correctly should last 2 to 3 weeks without significant chipping. A result that starts lifting or peeling within the first week usually means either the preparation was rushed or the products used were low quality.
Removal matters too. Gel should be soaked off gently, not drilled off aggressively. The nail plate should look the same after removal as before — not thinner or more sensitive.
A word on price
Pricing reflects time, materials, and overhead. A private studio with high-quality products, properly sterilized equipment, and an experienced master will cost more than a budget salon. That's straightforward economics.
