Gel Manicure in Alicante

Gel polish is only as good as the preparation underneath it. This page is mostly about that — because it decides whether your manicure lasts three weeks or six days.

If you have had gel done in several places you will have noticed the price range across Alicante is wide and the results are wider still. The same colour from the same brand can last three weeks in one studio and peel at the free edge on day five somewhere else.

The variable is almost never the polish. It is what happens in the hour before the polish comes out — which is why 120 minutes is booked for this appointment rather than forty.

What actually determines how long gel lasts

1. The cuticle line

Living cuticle and pterygium must be fully removed before any product goes on. If base coat is laid over that tissue it is bonded to skin, not nail. Skin sheds. The coating lifts at the base within days, water gets underneath, and the failure spreads.

This is the most common cause of poor retention, and it is entirely a function of time spent before coating starts. It is also why a "gel manicure" completed in thirty minutes is a warning sign rather than a bargain.

2. Dehydration and the free edge

The plate must be free of oil and moisture when base coat goes on, and the free edge sealed with each layer. Skipping that is why some sets peel back from the tip like a sticker.

3. Product not touching skin

A coating that overlaps the sidewall by half a millimetre lifts there first. The margin should be a clean hairline gap. Slow, fiddly work — and where technique shows.

4. Curing

Thin layers, fully cured. Thick layers cure unevenly, stay soft underneath and chip readily.

A useful diagnostic. If your gel usually fails by lifting at the cuticle, preparation was rushed. If it fails by chipping at the tip, the free edge was not sealed. If it peels off in a sheet, the plate was not dehydrated. Knowing which applies to you is genuinely useful when deciding where to book next.

What the appointment includes

This is a full hygienic manicure followed by coating, in one 120-minute appointment:

Colour is discussed at the start, not rushed at the end. If you are undecided, bring a photo — far more useful than a description.

Removal — the part that decides nail health

Gel does not damage nails. Bad removal does.

Peeling product off at home takes visible layers of plate with it and leaves the surface thin for weeks. Drilling it off entirely is faster for the technician but has almost no margin for error — a fraction too deep and you are filing nail, not gel.

Here the bulk of the top coat is reduced with the file, then the remaining product is soaked off with acetone wraps and lifted when it has genuinely released. Twenty minutes rather than five. Your plate should look the same afterwards as before — same thickness, no white patches, no cold sensitivity.

Removal is €10–15 and can be booked on its own. See gel polish removal.

Frequently asked questions

How long does a gel manicure last?

Two to three weeks without chipping or lifting when preparation is done properly. After that it is usually regrowth rather than the coating that prompts a rebook.

Why does my gel lift after a few days?

Nearly always preparation: cuticle left on the plate, insufficient dehydration, or product touching skin at the edges. The polish brand is rarely the cause.

Does gel damage nails?

Not when applied and removed correctly. Damage comes from peeling or drilling it off. Soak-off removal leaves the plate intact.

How much does it cost?

€45 short, €50 medium — including the full hygienic manicure, not just coating. Design adds €5–10; removing old gel is €10–15.

How long is the appointment?

120 minutes, most of it preparation.

Can I just have removal?

Yes, €10–15 on its own, about 20 minutes.
