Simple line work and accent nails sit at the lower end. Multi-layer designs, fine detail across all ten nails, or anything needing several cured stages sit at the upper end. You are told which before anything starts — never after.
What works well
Accent nails
Eight nails in one colour, two with something else. The most versatile approach and easiest to live with — if you tire of the accent it is two nails to change rather than ten.
Fine line work
Single hairline curves, a thin outline following the nail shape, or a minimal geometric mark. Reads as intentional on short nails where larger designs would crowd.
Negative space
Colour over part of the nail with the natural plate left visible. Grows out far more gracefully than full coverage, which makes it a good choice if you want a longer interval between appointments.
Seasonal and occasion work
Something for a wedding, a trip, or the time of year. Bring the dress colour, the invitation, or a photo of where you are going — more useful than a nail photo.

Design on short nails
A frequent worry, and mostly unfounded. Short nails limit scale, not possibility. What changes is proportion: elements need to be smaller and fewer, and empty space does more work. A single fine line on a nude base looks deliberate on a short nail and cluttered on a long one.
What genuinely does not work on very short nails is detailed pictorial artwork — there is not enough surface for it to read as anything, and it looks like a smudge from arm's length. I will say so rather than take the booking and disappoint you.
How it holds up
Correctly applied design lasts exactly as long as plain gel — two to three weeks. The requirement is that the design sits under the top coat, fully sealed, rather than being painted on afterwards. Design applied over top coat catches on fabric and wears off at the high points within days.
