How Long Does a Pedicure Take?

Alena Goncharova · Private Nail Studio, Alicante

A hygienic pedicure takes about 60 minutes. A pedicure with gel coating takes 120 minutes, or 90 if colour goes on the visible toes only. Men's pedicure is 70 minutes, because there is generally more hard skin to reduce.

There is no single answer to "how long does a pedicure take" because the phrase covers several different services. Below are the real appointment lengths at Private Nail Studio, what actually fills that time, and why the numbers vary between places.

Appointment times by service

Male hygienic pedicure70 min€50

Add roughly 20 minutes if you arrive with existing gel that needs removing. Mention it when booking so the slot is long enough — arriving with old coating and no removal time set aside is the most common cause of a rushed appointment.

What does a pedicure involve?

Most of the appointment is not the nails. Roughly, an hour breaks down like this:

If coating is added, that is a further 30 to 60 minutes on top: preparation, base, colour and top coat, each cured separately under a lamp.

How long does a gel pedicure take?

120 minutes for all ten toes, or 90 for the toes-only option.

The colour itself is roughly fifteen minutes of that. The rest is the pedicure underneath, which is what the coating has to bond to — gel applied over a nail that still has cuticle tissue on the plate lifts, exactly as it would on a hand.

That is why a "gel pedicure" advertised at forty minutes total is worth a second look. The painting has not been shortened; the preparation has. More detail in the gel pedicure guide.

Why appointment lengths vary between places

Three things account for most of the difference.

How many clients are being handled at once. In a shared salon a technician often works across two or three appointments in parallel — colour curing on one while another is being filed. That model can list shorter individual times because your appointment is interleaved with others. A single-master studio books one client at a time, so the stated length is the actual length.

Technique. A classic wet pedicure includes soaking time. Hardware technique on dry skin skips that but spends longer on controlled reduction.

Where the buffer sits. Some places quote the minimum and run over. Others build in a margin. Neither is wrong, but it explains why a 60-minute pedicure in one place and a 45-minute one in another can be the same treatment.

Afterwards

There is no drying time with gel — it cures hard under the lamp, so you can put shoes on immediately, though open shoes are more comfortable on freshly worked nail folds. With regular polish, allow an hour before anything closed.

A urea-based foot cream at night is the single habit that most extends the result. See pedicure aftercare for the rest.

Frequently asked questions

How long does a pedicure take?

It depends on the service. A hygienic pedicure without coating is about 60 minutes. A pedicure with gel coating is 120 minutes for all toes, or 90 minutes for the visible toes only. Men's pedicure is 70 minutes.

How long does a gel pedicure take?

120 minutes for all ten toes, or 90 minutes for the toes-only option. The colour is roughly fifteen minutes of that — most of the appointment is the pedicure underneath, which is what the coating bonds to.

What does a pedicure involve?

Assessment, callus and hard skin reduction, clearing the nail groove at each side of the nail, cuticle work, trimming straight across and shaping, then buffing and a moisturising treatment. Gel coating is an optional final stage.

What does a pedicure include at Private Nail Studio?

The hygienic pedicure includes all of the skin and nail work with no colour, for €45 over 60 minutes. The coated version adds gel polish, at €55 for all toes over 120 minutes or €45 for the toes only over 90 minutes.

Does removing old gel add to the appointment time?

Yes, about 20 minutes. Mention existing coating when you book so the slot is long enough.

Why do some places offer a much shorter pedicure?

Usually because several clients are handled in parallel, or because preparation has been compressed. The colour stage is short either way; it is the skin and nail groove work that takes the time.
