Feet get ignored until they hurt. That is more or less universal, and in Alicante it catches up faster than most places — eight months of open shoes, hot pavement, sand and salt water put real wear on the skin, and callus builds quietly until walking barefoot on tiles stops being comfortable.
A men's pedicure here is maintenance work. No colour, nothing decorative, nothing that would look out of place. The point is that your feet function properly.
What the treatment covers
- Callus and hard skin reduction. Heels, the ball of the foot, the outside edge and the sides of the big toe — wherever load has built the tissue up. Done with a professional electric file rather than a blade.
- Cracked heels. The hard rim around a fissure is what stops it closing. Reducing it lets the skin underneath heal. Deep, long-standing cracks sometimes need a second appointment a few weeks later.
- Nail groove and cuticle. The build-up in the sides of the nail — impossible to reach yourself and the usual source of that persistent pressure feeling in a shoe.
- Nail trimming and shaping. Cut straight across, thickness reduced where the plate has become heavy, edges smoothed so they do not catch in socks.
- Finish. Buffed matte. No shine, no product, unless you ask.

Why hardware, and why dry
Classic pedicure soaks the feet and removes hard skin with blades. It works to a point, but soaked skin swells and it becomes genuinely difficult to see where dead tissue ends and living tissue begins. On heavy callus that ambiguity matters — you either take too little and the result lasts a fortnight, or too much and it is sore for days.
Working dry with an e-file keeps that boundary visible. Removal is controlled, more comes off safely, and the result holds considerably longer. On the sort of build-up most men arrive with, the difference is not subtle.
Please arrive with dry feet. No bath, no long shower immediately beforehand, no polish. This is the most common preparation mistake and it measurably reduces what can be achieved in the session.
Where this stops. Cosmetic pedicure is not podiatry. Suspected fungal nail infection, an infected or inflamed ingrown toenail, diabetic foot concerns, or any open wound need a podiatrist or doctor first. Describe anything you are unsure about when you book — if an appointment is not appropriate I will say so rather than take the booking.

Keeping it that way
- Urea foot cream at night. 10–25% urea, not body lotion. It breaks down hard skin chemically rather than sitting on the surface. The highest-return habit by a distance.
- Rinse and dry after the beach, including between the toes.
- Rotate footwear. The same pair every day concentrates load in the same places, which is how callus rebuilds fastest.
- Straight across, never down the corners. Rounding toenail corners is the leading cause of ingrown edges.
- Leave the pumice alone in the shower. Scrubbing softened heels removes surface tissue and prompts the skin to rebuild thicker.
Six to eight weeks is typical for men, shorter through the summer if you are in sandals and at the beach regularly.
